Landscape design was extremely important to the client. As part of a team led by Perkins + Will Architects, Kathy Poole worked with the architects and client to develop a plan that preserved the most important ecological zones while still providing parking and a fully developed collection of gardens that aid in patients’ healing and comforting their visitors. Of particular note are two gardens. The Events Terrace, which is a "quilt" of planted grids that alternates with paving, allowing ample room for outdoor events. The Spiral Garden, located in a quiet corner adjacent to the Chapel, is a modified labyrinth that also treats stormwater runoff from the Chapel roof in a planted, spiral runnel.
