General Growth Properties is committed to sustainable development and the preservation of Jim Rouse's vision for and the historic integrity of Columbia Town Center. The Ecological Design Guidelines were developed to guide future, sustainable development of the Town Center. Kathy Poole coordinated a team of scientists and geographic information specialists in the production of a body of ecological information and recommendation of forest preservation areas, restoration strategies, stormwater management strategies, and best building locations and practices. Ms. Poole transformed this information into detailed Ecological Sustainability Guidelines that offer clear parameters to client General Growth Properties and subsequent designers: spatial dimensions, recommended stormwater techniques, public access strategies, landscape  design, parking reconfigurations, and detailed planting specifications.
