The Nancy N. and J. C. Lewis Cancer and Research Pavilion, St. Joseph/Candler is an intimate facility whose goal was to differ from facilities offering similar cancer care services—pavilion not building, like home not an institution. As Project Landscape Architect, Kathy Poole designed, completed Construction Documentation, and performed Construction Administration of parking design, stormwater/landscape integration, and a series of gardens around the facility. One garden, a Butterfly Garden, was designed to attract potentially 13 species of butterflies. Another, a modified labyrinth, is meant to provide a meditative activity in a garden setting.
