The Bristol Framework Plan offers strategies at three scales: Regional Trails, Greenways, and Blueways; Downtown Key Nodes and Connections; and Street by Street Improvement Plans. The Plan placed heavy emphasis on long-term, infrastructural improvements for key civic spaces and program elements like a new greenway, flood control for Beaver Creek (which runs through the middle of downtown and is a serious problem), new public spaces that double as Bristol festival venues during NASCAR race weeks, and connecting existing civic institutions. For the city's main street, State Street and other key streets, the Plan developed strategies for revitalization of municipal infrastructures: street widths; parking; street furniture; and sustainable planting strategies.
