BISCOE GRAY HERITAGE FARM • Prince Frederick, Maryland

Designed as the next Chesapeake Bay Gateways Network site, the Heritage Farm Master Plan is a carefully programmed balance between offering education and recreation opportunities to large numbers of visitors and the site’s extraordinarily sensitive archaeological, cultural, historical, and natural resources—all within a very limited developable area. The project required creative solutions to ensure proper infrastructure and to meet regulatory standards, particularly with regard to the Chesapeake Bay Critical Area buffer.

It has been designed as a living laboratory to explore, understand, and experience Calvert County agricultural practices and lifestyles throughout its history—from Native American transitory settlement, small scale colonial farming, 19th c. era agriculture, 20th c. tobacco farming to contemporary, pioneering community supported agricultural and sustainable farming efforts.
